Two groups that have "ongoing issues" are believed to be behind an incident in which shots were fired from a vehicle in Upper Hutt this morning.
No one was reported injured in the shooting, which happened just before 7.44am on Fergusson Dr in Clouston Park.
Police and Armed Offenders Squad members executed a search warrant at an address in Upper Hutt tonight.
Officers were then seen at a house which had several cars in the driveway, including one with swastikas painted on it, Fairfax reported.
Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Sears said police were following positive lines of inquiry.
"In particular, investigators are appealing for any sightings of a blue Ford Falcon saloon seen in the Upper Hutt area early this morning."
Sears said the police force's priority was to keep people safe. There is still a high police presence in the area.
"Police are confident there is no ongoing risk to the general public, and that the incident this morning was not a random act."
Anyone with information that could help the investigation should contact their local police station or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. Anyone who sees suspicious activity should also call police.
