A quick thief took advantage of an unattended fire station in West Auckland last week to steal a firefighter's wallet, keys and his silver 2005 BMW X5 car.
A Facebook post said the West Harbour fire station crew had been off-station getting gear serviced and returned to the station in Hobsonville Rd at 4.13pm on Thursday.
"It was noticed that one of the guys' cars was missing," wrote crew member Marshy Ritchie.
"Thinking it was a practical joke, the guys on shift soon realised it wasn't and rung the police immediately.
"It seems that some lovely germ has helped themselves into the station [unknown if the crew was here or not], then helped themselves to one of the member's bags and stolen his wallet, bag, keys and his 2005 BMW X5 that was parked at the rear of the station!!
"Please, this isn't to emphasise the current crime rate in our area, but we're asking for anyone that may of seen something, guys hanging around the station or the BMW leaving to please get in touch with the police ASAP. This would have occurred between 4.13pm and 4.50pm 17/08/17."
The stolen vehicle was a silver 2005 BMW with number plate 373 V10. A police spokeswoman said the car is still outstanding and no arrests have been made.
