A major South Auckland road is closed after powerlines were brought down by a digger on the back of a truck.
Power has been cut and motorists are being warned to avoid Roscommon Rd between Browns and Wiri Station Rds after the accident left live lines across the road around 12.35pm.
A Fire and Emergency spokesman said the lines had been clipped by a load on the back of a passing truck.
A police spokesman said a digger had hit and pulled down powerlines and the section of road was closed as a precaution while the lines were down.
WorkSafe had been notified as it was an industrial accident, he said.
The Vector website said power was not expected to be restored to the area until 3.30pm.
Crews were on their way to the area with power turned off to make the area safe following the accident.
