Two Waikato service stations were the target of thieves who smashed their way on both occasions and made off with cigarettes.
Waikato police Sergeant Paul Van De Zee said it was too early to say if the two aggravated robberies - hitting Z service stations in Te Awamutu and Hamilton - were linked.
The first happened at 11pm last night at Z Sloane St, Te Awamutu.
Van De Zee said the attendant saw the group coming so managed to barricade himself in an office as the three offenders smashed their way inside, as their getaway driver waited outside.
Police are now wanting any information or sightings of a silver station wagon, possibly a Mazda, last seen speeding from the scene on Sloane St towards Albert Park Dr. It is believed the vehicle may have been stolen earlier in the night from Hamilton.
Then at 1.48am at Z Dinsdale, three offenders also smashed their way inside as the shocked staff member stood by.
Van De Zee said although it was clear cigarettes were taken it was too early to say what else had been stolen.
Scene examinations were being carried out at both businesses this morning.
Glass lay strewn across the forecourt of Z Dinsdale which is taped off.
Different vehicles were used in each incident.
Police would be reviewing CCTV footage to gain a better description of those involved.
Anyone with information is urged to call Hamilton police on 07 858 6200.
