An armed man who ran from police in the Far North last night remains on the loose.
Police yesterday cordoned off part of State Highway 10 while police dog handlers and the Armed Offenders Squad searched for the man, who led police in a high-speed chase before crashing his car. He and a passenger fled on foot.
Cordons were lifted last night but police would continue to look for him today, a spokeswoman said. He is thought to have a gun.
Police tried to stop a car on Marsden Rd, Paihia, shortly after 2.30pm yesterday after recognising a known offender in the car.
The car was understood to have crashed off the road on SH10 between Pakaraka and Oromahoe Rd.
Police said one offender, understood to be the passenger, was arrested about 3.50pm and was in custody.
