Police are investigating reports a man robbed an Auckland bank at gunpoint this afternoon.
Initial reports are that a man entered the bank on Blockhouse Bay Rd and presented a firearm, a police spokesperson confirmed.
Both staff and customers were present at the time but nobody was injured.
No items were taken and the offender left a bag behind.
Police received the call to the scene about 4.20pm, by which time the offender had already fled.
The man was wearing a white, full-face motorcycle helmet and a light blue jacket with white writing on the back.
A man at Mai Sushi down the road said a customer told him he saw a man in the street with a gun.
Another customer at a nearby business told employees they could see a man running down the street late this afternoon.
A number of bank customers left the scene before police arrived and police would like to speak to those customers.
Customers who were at the bank and anyone with any information should speak to Auckland Police on 09302 6400.
