Four trucks have been destroyed in a south Auckland fire which authorities are treating as suspicious.
About a dozens crews and more than 50 firefighters from south Auckland and further afield were at one stage at the truck storage yard on Spartan Rd in Takanini.
A Fire Service spokesman said emergency services received multiple calls about 10pm and gained entrance to the gated compound.
"[The trucks] are outside a building inside a compound," the spokesman said.
The building was not affected but the trucks were destroyed. The blaze was under control by about 11pm although crews remained at the scene to monitor and dampen down hot spots.
The spokesman said the fire was being treated as suspicious and a specialist fire investigator was on the scene.
Daryl Muir runs a business next door and said the vehicles were large truck and trailer units.
The yard was used by independent transport companies to store their vehicles, he said.
"I could see the flames and smoke breaking though the tops of the trucks," he said.
Muir had feared his neighbouring building would also catch alight but thanks to the quick response of firefighters the blaze was contained before it did so.
Police have been notified and a spokesman said they were supporting the Fire Service.
