A cyclist has been hurt after falling from her bike on Te Ngae Rd.

A police media spokesman confirmed the incident happened shortly after 12.20pm today.

Police and St John Ambulance staff were at the scene and the cyclist has left in an ambulance.

A Rotorua Daily Post staff member at the scene said the cyclist, who is a woman, was lying on her back on the side of the road just outside the entrance to the Redwood Rest Home and Hospital.

The woman's bike is on the grass verge.

A member of the public had put an umbrella above the woman to shield her from the sun, she said.

Police initially thought the cyclist was hit by a car, but have since confirmed no vehicles were involved.

An ambulance media spokeswoman said the woman had moderate injuries.
