A man has appeared in court accused of shooting another man in the leg in suburban Christchurch last night.
Paul Leslie Stockford, 32, made a brief appearance at Christchurch District Court this morning on a charge of discharging a shotgun at a man with intent to do grievous bodily harm.
Police were called to Dickson Cres in the western suburb of Hornby about 7pm.
There was a heavy police presence in the area last night. A section of the road was closed and residents were not being allowed into their homes for a short time.
The alleged victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Stockford, a labourer from Hornby, appeared from custody this morning.
Defence counsel Chris Nolan asked that Stockford be remanded without plea for three weeks.
No application for bail was made.
Judge Tom Gilbert remanded Stockford in custody without plea to April 24 when he will appear via audio visual link from prison.
Police investigations are ongoing.
