The woman who was the most seriously injured in a crash on the South Western Motorway near Mangere at 11.15pm last night when the car they were travelling in rolled is improving.
A police media spokesperson said the woman who was taken by ambulance to Middlemore Hospital in a critical condition has improved to a serious condition.
A Middlemore Hospital spokeswoman said the injured woman was transferred to Auckland Hospital last night. Auckland City Hospital confirmed the woman, in her 20s, was this afternoon in a serious but stable condition.
There were three other occupants also travelling in the car, which flipped on the section of the motorway between Puhinui and Massey Rds.
The police spokesperson said the first crash caused a nose-to-tail involving three cars 100m down the road. One person from this crash was also taken to hospital with moderate injuries.
The Serious Crash Unit is investigating and the motorway was closed for two hours. It reopened at 3.30am today.
