Kapiti Police have released the name of the woman who died when she was hit by a vehicle on Sunday morning in Paekakariki.

She was 56-year-old Caroline Boyd, a Wellington local.

Emergency services were called shortly before 10.30am on Sunday. Police said at the time that the driver was co-operating and no one else was being sought..

Police said their "thoughts are with Ms Boyd's family at this tragic time".

The Serious Crash Unit is investigating.
