A 6-year-old girl has been hit by a truck in Palmerston North.
A police spokesman said they received a call about the incident at 10.08 this morning.
The girl was hit near the intersection of Park Rd and Botanical Rd in the suburb of West End.
The spokesman said they were told by ambulance staff that a "girl had been run over by a truck".
She was conscious when emergency services arrived.
A St John spokesman said the girl was transported to Palmerston North Hospital in a serious condition.
The driver of the truck was spoken to by police, and the serious crash unit is investigating.
A Palmerston North Hospital spokesman said the girl was taken immediately to the intensive care unit, and there were plans to transfer her to Starship children's hospital in Auckland.
