The body of a missing 65-year-old tramper has been found in Westland.

He was reported missing at midday yesterday after failing to return from a one day tramp in the Jackson Bay area, south Westland.

Search and rescue staff found the man's body late this morning near a bluff in the coastal area between Smoothwater Bay and Stafford Bay, Sergeant Paul Watson said.

The man's next of kin have been told of his death and the matter has been referred to the coroner.

Watson said police did not believe the man did not die in suspicious circumstances.
