Police are searching for a US tourist whose passport and other items have been found at a Marlborough marina.

Jason Michael Johns, 36, has been missing since Saturday evening.

He is believed to have been at Waikawa Marina in Picton.

At about 1am today, Marlborough Port Security located a number of items at the marina, including a backpack, sleeping bag, clothing and Johns' passport.

A wet blanket was also found among the items found.

Police reviewed CCTV footage from the marina and it appeared the items were left there about 10pm last night.

But Johns' whereabouts are unknown.

There were a number of people at the marina last night, police said, and they are wanting to hear from anyone who can assist with locating Johns.

Anyone with information is being asked to contact Picton police on (03) 520 3120.
