A woman is in a serious condition after being flung from a car in a crash in Northland.
Fire Service spokesman Scott Osmond said the car had rolled and the woman was thrown from the vehicle in the accident near Taipuha, inland of Waipu.
"I believe they were ejected."
A police spokeswoman said a helicopter was called to the scene to airlift the patient to Whangarei Hospital.
She initially said the woman was in a critical condition, but police later said she was serious.
Ambulance notified police and the Fire Service of the crash at 3.50pm. Only one car was involved.
"It looks like they've gone into a ditch," the police spokeswoman said.
She said the crash occurred on Paparoa-Oakleigh Rd and police will be investigating.
The Northland police serious crash unit is in attendance at the scene.
The road is down to one lane so motorists can expect delays.
