The police have made a public appeal for help over the evening assault of a man at a waterfront skate park.

The 21-year-old was assaulted at the Caroline Bay Skate Park in Timaru at 9.15pm on December 15.

A man aged about 25 is said to have demanded money and hassled the victim before assaulting him.

Police say the alleged offender is said to have large build and short blonde/ginger hair.

He was wearing a purple LA Lakers Basketball singlet and was seen walking around the Caroline Bay area the same evening.

He was then picked up in a red station wagon and left the scene.
