Picton's EcoWorld Aquarium and Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre has recieved a very special earthquake refugee.
A little blue penguin named Little Tremor was found wandering on a track in the Sounds the day after the Kaikoura earthquake.
Two tourists from Holland found Little Tremor and took him to the Picton Veterinary Clinic.
Little Tremor is thought to have been abandoned by his parents.
The baby penguin will live at EcoWorld for the next few months before he is released into the wild.
He is about 5 weeks away from learning to swim and will be released when he can fend for himself.
"When Little Tremor was first brought in he was tick free and in need of a good meal. He's
been feeding well and is gaining weight. He is a lot more confident during feeding times
now and can be quite demanding and vocal when he's after his fishy meal!" EcoWorld's Hannah Harland said.
