An elderly man has died at Lyttelton Harbour, though police cannot say yet what happened.
A police spokeswoman told Fairfax the man was pulled from the water.
However another spokeswoman told the Herald there were conflicting reports on whether or not the 77-year-old had actually been pulled from the water.
Paramedics treated the man at the scene, but he died, she confirmed.
