Police are today searching for a man who pointed a gun at police.

Daniel Kipa is believed to be hiding in the East Auckland area and armed police are hunting for him in the Glen Innes area.

Kipa, 31, is wanted after a firearm was presented at police last night.

He has active warrants for arrest for breaching prison release conditions, and has been evading police for some time.

Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Newman believes Kipa has a firearm and urges anyone who sees him, or knows his whereabouts, to not approach him but instead call 111 immediately.

"We're also advising anyone who may be helping Kipa evade police to think twice, as this is a criminal offence. Anyone found to have assisted Kipa can be prosecuted," says Newman.

"We also want to reassure the community that we have a number of staff working hard to locate Kipa."

If anyone has information that can assist police, please call 111 immediately, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
