Kaikoura fibre-optic cable to undergo urgent repairs

Eftpos, landlines and data will be cut in Kaikoura this afternoon.

Kaikoura Civil Defence Controller Murray Sinclair said Chorus will take the fibre-optic cable out of service this afternoon for urgent maintenance and repairs to earthquake damage.

The outage is expected to last for four to five hours and the exact time is unknown.

"This means no landlines, no data and no Eftpos during the outage. The 111 system will still be operating. Cellphones should still work normally."
