A man is in Middlemore Hospital with serious head injuries after crashing his car through a fence and hitting a power pole in Waiuku in the early hours of this morning.
The crash brought down power lines on Waiuku Rd, which then started a small fire in the area, the Fire Service said.
The fire was brought under control and the man was removed from the car after power had been isolated.
He was taken to hospital in a critical condition.
Police also attended the incident about 2.30am. The serious crash unit was investigating the cause.
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was also called to the incident.
Later this morning, three people were injured when the vehicle they were in hit a tree in Auckland.
The crash happened just before 6.30am on Overlea Road in Glen Innes.
Two fire crews cut one person out of the car. Two other people in the car managed to get out themselves.
One person in a serious condition and two others in moderate conditions have been taken to Auckland City Hospital.
