Truck driver feared buried under Kaikoura landslide found

The search for a truck driver reported missing has ended with good news after initial fears he might have been buried in a large landslide on the Kaikoura coast proved unfounded.

The Herald understands the man, has since been located safe and well.

The driver, whose location had been unaccounted for since 12:03am, was reported to police as missing just before 8am.

However, a member of the trucking community told the Herald it's believed the man has been located.

Details of where he was found remain sketchy at present and will be updated as more information comes to hand.

Earlier today police said his truck's last known location was around 30km south of Kaikoura.

"Communications in the area are very difficult but Police have the details of the truck and are keeping watch for it," a spokeswoman said.

Earlier Newshub reported the man was last seen headed north on the road along the coast some ten minutes before the quake struck - and has not been heard from since.

Rangi Dellaway told Newshub Civil Defence had been notified - but searchers hadn't found the man yet.

"You don't know if he's parked up or at someone's house, but we need a call. It would be good to hear from him," he was reported saying.

Dellaway had feared the worst as he said it wasn't the first time the piece of road had given away.
