A fire has affected the Maniototo Arts Centre in Ranfurly this morning.

Firefighters from Ranfurly and Naseby were called to the building in Reade St about 9.45am.

No one was injured in the incident.

The fire was "burning well'' at the rear of the arts centre when crews arrived, a Fire Service spokesman told the Otago Daily Times.

"They managed to stop it spreading through the rest of the building. The fire is extinguished," he said.

He could not confirm the extent of the damage at present, but it appeared that the fire mostly affected the underneath of the building.

There was nothing to indicate it was suspicious and firefighters were working on establishing the cause.

"They have not requested a fire investigator or police,'' the spokesman said.
