Flipped boaties spark rescue at Maketu

UPDATE: A boat flipped this morning, with two people aboard.

According to a police spokesperson, they both managed to get off the boat, and bring the boat back to land themselves.

Police, fire and ambulance services did attend the incident.

Both occupants were checked by ambulance staff.

9.31am: Emergency services are responding to reports of a boat flipping at the notorious Kaituna Cut.

Reports came in just after 9am of a boat having flipped at the end of Ford Rd, Maketu.

A police northern communications spokeswoman said police had been called to help with two men who were bringing their boat in after possibly being hit by a rogue wave.

It is understood the men were in an inflatable boat and were flipped.

Firefighters and the Maketu Coastguard were also called.
