The Buller man who escaped from police custody on Saturday night will spend a month behind bars awaiting his next court appearance.
Brad Colin Kerr, 26, of Carters Beach near Westport, was remanded in custody until November 24 when he appeared in the Westport District Court yesterday.
Community Constable Paul Sampson said Kerr had turned himself in voluntarily to the police.
Four more charges were laid against Kerr yesterday when he appeared in the Westport court.
Sampson said two charges of assaulting a person with a blunt instrument and threatening to kill related to an incident on September 10. Another charge was for reckless driving while the fourth was for escaping from police custody.
On Saturday night police stopped Kerr in a vehicle and arrested him on a warrant for failing to appear in court on October 20.
He was taken to Westport police station but escaped from police and was still missing yesterday morning when police issued a nationwide alert for information about his whereabouts. He subsequently turned himself in.
Kerr is scheduled to appear in Westport District Court on November 24.
