A car has smashed through a shop window on Great North Rd after the driver appeared to lose control while reversing.

The driver suffered moderate injuries, but no one else was injured.

Police andambulance were called to the Kelston store, a Malaysian food outlet, shortly after 8am.

"The driver hit the curb and lost control - it looks that way," a Victim Support spokeswoman at the scene said. She asked not to be named.

"The shop's totally smashed. It's just lucky that no one was in that part of it."

A staff member from the cafe next door, who also asked not to be named, said it appeared the driver had reversed before hitting the curb and coming forward, into the glass shopfront.
