Police have searched a Thames property in their hunt for a man they believe is armed following the theft of guns.

They say Rameka Wikaira, aged 26, is considered to be armed and dangerous.

The police armed offenders squad joined yesterday afternoon's search of a Thames property.

"After inquiries into recent burglaries and thefts in the Thames area, police were led to [a] Currie St address."

"Mr Wikaira is still wanted in relation to the burglaries and for breaching his prison release conditions."

Wikaira is about 171cm tall and of medium to thin build.

Sergeant Russell Richards, of the Thames police, said Wikaira may have stolen firearms with him.

"We would like to make it clear to friends and associates of his, there may be charges for anyone caught assisting him with avoiding Police."

• Police ask that sightings of Wikaira be reported by calling 111. Information can be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
