A 22-year-old man is in a critical condition after he was repeatedly stabbed in a violent attack in south Auckland.
Police were called to McDonald's in Great South Road last night after a badly injured man was transferred from a waiting car into an ambulance.
Police said the victim had been at a different address in Manurewa around 10pm when an altercation took place and he suffered multiple stab wounds.
A person then called emergency services as the bleeding man was being driven to hospital.
Ambulance staff asked them to pull over at the fast food restaurant and wait for them to arrive.
The police were also called and the man transferred into the ambulance.
He was then taken to Middlemore Hospital for treatment and underwent surgery overnight.
Today he remained in a critical but stable condition.
Police said they were still establishing who was involved in the stabbing and establishing what happened at the address.
