A trapped driver has been seriously injured after a freight truck rolled in Otorohanga early today.

Northern Fire Service shift manager Jaron Phillips said the crash happened outside Otorohanga South Primary School on Rangipare St at 3.29am.

The truck, thought to be a B-train carrying general goods, had rolled pinning the driver upside down in his cab.

Phillips said firefighters used cutting equipment to free the driver who was taken to hospital suffering serious injuries.
