Man at centre of armed stand-off in Papakura dies

The man who at the centre of an armed offenders call out in Papakura today has died.

The armed offenders call out started when a woman phoned police at 6am telling them a man had a gun at the Sutton Crescent address.

Police negotiators then spent several hours trying to get the man to surrender three children from the home.

The children were released at around midday.

A gun shot was then heard half an hour later and soon after police entered the premises to find the man with a gunshot wound.

The man passed away at Middlemore hospital this evening.
