All council offices and libraries are closed in the Waikato area, after a caller threatened to visit a Waikato District Council office "with harmful intent".
The temporary closure of the premises were called for after the council's call centre received the threat this morning.
Offices will remain closed for the rest of the day.
Waikato District Council chief executive Gavin Ion said police had been notified.
"We have temporarily closed all offices and libraries until further notice.
"We will place a security officer on duty today at each site before reopening."
Ion said the council took any threat to staff seriously, and placed their safety first.
The council has notified residents the public about the closures on social media, and apologised for the inconvenience.
