An elderly man was stabbed and his car stolen in Tauranga yesterday.

Two women approached the 85-year-old man outside the Westpac Bank on Chadwick Rd, Greerton, about 3.15pm.

The women allegedly stabbed the man and fled in his car.

The man is remains in a stable condition in Tauranga Hospital today.

The car was involved in a brief police pursuit later in the evening and two women were arrested.

A 25-year-old and 27-year-old woman appeared in Tauranga District Court this morning.

Police ask that anyone who may have interacted with two women outside the Westpac Bank on Chadwick Rd, Greerton, at around 3pm yesterday to contact Tauranga police on (07) 577 4384.
