A few lucky customers have driven out of a west Auckland service station with a free tank of fuel after the Eftpos payment system crashed this evening.
A staff member at Gas Service Station on Lincoln Rd confirmed "two or three" customers received free fuel after the payment system failed for about 15 minutes early this evening.
It is not known how widespread the crash was, but customers were not so lucky at the Subway next door.
A woman working at the sandwich bar said she had to turn away some customers because Eftpos was not working.
The problem began about 7pm, before coming right 15 minutes, but the system had been working and off since then.
They were waiting for an Eftpos technician to come to the site, she said.
No one from Eftpos could be contacted for comment.
