Two dead in crashes in South Auckland and South Taranaki

A person has been killed and another seriously wounded in a two-car crash in South Taranaki this morning.

It is the second road fatality today, after a 70-year-old woman was earlier struck and killed in South Auckland.

Police said the Taranaki crash happened on Mountain Rd in Normanby shortly before 7am.

The road has been closed and diversions are in place while the scene is cleared.

The police serious crash unit is investigating.

In the earlier crash, a women died after being hit by a car on Rongomai Rd in Otara shortly after 5am.

The road is now closed.

Police are speaking to the driver and the serious crash unit is investigating.
