The search for a missing hunter who has been lost in the bush near Balclutha since Saturday is continuing this morning.

Search and rescue teams have been deployed to search the Blue Mountains with a specialist search dog.

If weather conditions allow a helicopter will join the search.

Constable Murray Hewitson said the search teams have narrowed down the area to concentrate on.

"Weather conditions in the area are cold and drizzly so the man would've faced a cold night," he said.

"Obviously we want to find the hunter as soon as possible because we're concerned for his health and safety, especially as time goes on.

"Last night was hard work in dark and wet conditions so we're hopeful we'll have more luck today."
