Police are investigating the robbery of a man on a Rotorua street.

The incident happened about 10.30pm last night on Old Taupo Road, by York St.

The victim, aged in his 20s, was threatened with a blunt instrument but was not assaulted.

The offender stole the man's wallet and contents, his mobile phone and Kathmandu jacket.

The offender was described as a male, fair skinned Maori, in his late teens to early 20s with a small build.

He used a bandana to cover the bottom half of his face.

The offender left the scene in a black coloured van with white markings on the side.

The vehicle was described as being lowered with a loud 'boy racer' sounding engine.
It had bright blue tinged headlights.

Police want to hear from anyone around Old Taupo Rd or the Glenholme area last evening, who saw or heard anything suspicious. They should call Rotorua police on (07) 348 0099.

Information can also be provided anonymously to the organisation Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
