Man feared dead in North Canterbury house fire

A man is believed to have died in a house fire in Cheviot, North Canterbury, this morning.

The fire broke out at 7:35am.

Police and five fire crews from Cheviot and Scargill fought the blaze.

An elderly woman is understood to have escaped the fire, which engulfed the house.

The fire is not believed to be suspicious.
