Quake hits Marlborough region

A 4.5 magnitude quake shook the Marlborough region at 12.45pm today.

The earthquake was centred 5km south of Seddon with a depth of 20km.

GeoNet reported that its intensity was moderate.

"Definitely felt that! The ground gave a jolt and the house shook briefly ... Quick visual check revealed nothing shaken loose except my wits!" said Blenheim resident Andrew Kacimaiwai.

Tracey Hargrave commented: "I felt that. ....4.4 Seddon."
