Fans of Helen Clark can now get their hands on a sweet shirt to show their support for the United Nations Secretary General hopeful.

Clark, who posted a photo to Facebook yesterday holding the shirt with with Gerard van Bohemen, NZ Permanent Representative to the UN in New York, said that the shirt had been designed by Kiwi fans.

"It's been a whirlwind of visits to UN Security Council capitals and meetings in New York. The selection of the new SG probably won't occur before October, so there's still a way to go! Please follow my campaign on this page, on Twitter and Instagram @Helen4SG, and on Snapchat Helen4SG," she wrote.

Clark has been promoting her campaign for the job using #Helen4SG on social media.

Some followers seemed to be confused by the fact that Clark was being referred to as an aunt.

Gordana Djuric wrote "Why on earth is she an AUNTY running for UN secretary G... are there no other, somewhat more worthy, not so basic, empoweringly political, feminist, intelligent, hard working Helen attributes..."

But Clark was quick to explain the Kiwi context of the term, saying "It's a New Zealand thing - meant well!!!!"
