Police have confirmed they have found the suspected armed driver of a car which fled a domestic in Huntly.

The man is currently talking with police and assisting them with their inquiries.

He was found at a Huntly property this afternoon.

Earlier, Waikato police responding to the incident believed the man was driving around with a firearm.

Police descended on an area, near Fairfield Ave on the western side of the town, just after midday.

Police refused to release details of what happened but said they werelooking for the driver of a grey Mitsubishi Legnum who they said may be armed and should not be approached.

Police confirmed there was just one man who was at the centre of the inquiry.

The registration plate on the vehicle, which also has black mags, is ESJ805.

It's the second firearms-related callout to Huntly in less than a week, after police descended on James Henry Crescent on Wednesday morning.

The man brandished a gun during a domestic, sparking an Armed Offenders Squad callout.

There are no road closures currently in place for this afternoon's incident but it was still a fluid situation, police say.
