Police are hunting a driver who fled the scene after crashing through a give way sign in Otago early this morning.

The vehicle mounted the footpath and smashed into the sign while driving along Reid Rd in Mosgiel shortly after midnight.

Police said the driver did not stop and headed down Factory Rd and then east along Gordon Rd.

The vehicle - a turquoise-coloured Honda Prelude - sustained significant damage to its front left panel. The left headlight was smashed and the bumper was ripped from its mounting.

Police would like anyone with information about the car or its driver to contact the Mosgiel police station or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
