Two people were injured - one critically - after an aggravated burglary of a Hamilton home.
Detective Sergeant Andre Kavanagh of Hamilton Police says police are investigating the incident that occurred about 2.40am today at a Norman Street property.
"The investigation is in the early stages but police can confirm that a number of people have been hospitalised as a result of what occurred at the address.
"The scene was secured and police will conduct a scene examination to get a better understanding of what has happened."
Mr Kavanagh says there are still a number of witnesses to be spoken to and police will have further information as the enquiry progresses.
"Initial inquiries suggest this is an isolated incident and there is no reason for the wider community to be concerned."
