Four people have been transported to Palmerston North Hospital after two cars crashed near Massey University this morning.

Firefighters had to extricate two occupants of the cars after they collided on Old West Rd, the bypass of the Manawatu Gorge near Linton, at 7.13am.

A St John Ambulance spokesperson said staff were on the scene just before 7.30am.

Two people suffered serious injuries while two others suffered moderate injuries.
