A woman killed in a serious crash in Upper Hutt on Saturday was a grandmother visiting from Fiji.

Police today named Fijian Indian woman Udra Devi, 77, as the victim of the crash at the intersection of State Highway 2 and Whakatiki St.

"Police offer their condolences to her family at this difficult time," they said in a statement.

Investigations into the crash, in which a car and ute collided about 6.15pm, were continuing.

Mrs Devi died at the scene and two other people were taken to Hutt Hospital with moderate injuries.
