Two supermarket workers in Lower Hutt were hit over the head by a gun-wielding robber this morning.
The New World employees were injured by an armed man who entered the supermarket about 6.40am today.
It remains unclear if any money was stolen.
A second offender was seen waiting in the car park for the armed man.
The offender with the gun is described as a male Maori or Polynesian of medium build wearing a black beanie and white painter's overalls.
The other man is described as Maori or Polynesian, also wearing a black beanie but with black fabric covering his face. He was also wearing white overalls, which had sleeves.
He's described as being about 30 years old and about 172cm tall.
Police say the pair left in a vehicle but they don't have a description of it at this stage.
