Three people are in a serious condition in Dunedin Hospital after a car ploughed into parked car on Brockville Rd this afternoon.

A witness believed two people were getting into a VW Beetle when a Toyota Vitz rounded a corner, lost control and hit a parked car.

She said two people were in the car travelling down the hill, one of which escaped uninjured, which hit two people getting in to the parked car.

Firefighters and ambulance staff attended and police cordoned off the area about 4.30pm.

A St John spokeswoman said three ambulances attended and patients were taken to the emergency department.

Police issued a statement after 5.30pm saying a serious crash investigator would attend the scene and Brockville Rd was closed with detours in place
