A teenager suffered foot and ankle injuries after he was run over by a truck and trailer as he got out of his car today.

An ambulance spokeswoman said the 19-year-old man escaped with minor injuries because just one leg was struck by the passing truck.

"He was getting out of the vehicle and as he stepped out his foot went under the vehicle," the spokeswoman said.

Northern fire shift manager Paul Radden said the accident happened on Point Wells Rd near Omaha at 10.15am.

Emergency services, including fire, police and ambulance, headed to the north Auckland scene.

The injured pedestrian was treated by firefighters before ambulance officers arrived. He was taken by ambulance to North Shore Hospital for treatment.
