Elderly Wellington assault victim named

The elderly man who died after an assault in Wellington has been named.

He was 66-year-old Kiong Thai Tan, also known as Bill.

He was assaulted in a residential address in Mahora St, near the Pak'nSave in Kilbirnie, about 9.50am on Wednesday.

Mr Tan died in Wellington Hospital on Thursday morning.

Police said he was a resident at the address.

Detective Senior Sergeant Warwick McKee said: " We are continuing to provide his family and friends with support through this difficult period ".

A 49-year-old Wellington man was arrested and charged with his murder.
