The identity of a 27-year-old man charged with aggravated burglary, holding a man hostage and a litany of other offences following a dramatic police pursuit and alleged hostage incident yesterday will remain suppressed until his next court appearance.
The accused man has just appeared in the North Shore District Court and was granted interim name suppression by Judge Pippa Sinclair.
The hearing was adjourned until April 13 to allow time for the man to get a lawyer.
Until that date he has been remanded in custody without plea.
He was today represented by a duty solicitor, not his own legal counsel, who is yet to be assigned to him.
Judge Sinclair granted the man interim name suppression on the grounds that revealing his name may cause extreme hardship to him and anyone connected with him.
She said the matter would be reviewed at his next appearance.
Judge Sinclair also declined media requests to film and photograph the accused.
