A man suffered a nasty gash in his stomach after he was stabbed in a fight in Pt England, Auckland last night.

Police said two intoxicated neighbours were having a dispute at a flat in Maybury St when one attacked the other with a kitchen knife.

The injured man was taken to hospital with an 8cm wound to his abdomen.

The police spokesman said both men involved in the incident were aged in their 20s and from Burma.

Inquiries would continue today with police looking to speak to the other man who fled the scene before emergency services arrived.

There was no threat to the public, he said.
